Alegría y esperanza se reflejaba en los rostros de quienes, desde San Pedro y sus alrededores llegaron a Antofagasta el día de la reunión de la COREMA donde, en votación unánime, se rechazó el proyecto de extracción de aguas de “Pampa Colorada”. La caravana fue recibida por un grupo de estudiantes de origen Lickanantai quienes se han organizado para hacer suya también, la defensa del medioambiente.
En una manifestación llena de color y música, representantes de las comunidades de Peine, Chiu-Chiu y Toconao, a la par con delegaciones de distintas organizaciones de San Pedro sorprendieron a los antofagastinos con sus tarkas y tambores y una muestra “relámpago” de pinturas del artista Bernardo Echaurren.
La votación unánime de la COREMA no sorprendió solamente a los ejecutivos de “La Escondida” que estaban presentes en dicha reunión, si no también -y gratamente en este caso- a toda la comunidad sanpedrina que ve en este triunfo el resultado de la lucha organizada por la defensa de los derechos ciudadanos y el cuidado responsable del medioambiente.
La importancia histórica de este rechazo sienta un precedente significativo para otros frentes de la lucha medioambiental en la región como lo es el tema de la destrucción de una de las maravillas naturales casi intactas del planeta: los géiseres del Tatio. Con un recurso de protección aceptado por la Corte de Apelaciones de Antofagasta, la Empresa Geotérmica del Norte S.A. tendrá que responder con un informe por los trabajos que estaba realizando en la zona del Tatio y que fue ampliamente registrado en fotografía y video por a mesa del trabajo por el medioambiente y el concejal Juan Sota.
La movilización hoy está fortalecida, contenta y esperanzada pues, la COREMA ha dado una señal no sólo de respaldo a los derechos ciudadanos si no de integridad y conciencia en temas de tanta trascendencia como lo es el efecto permanente que puede causar en el desierto más árido del mundo la explotación irracional de los recursos hídricos que permiten la vida en condiciones extremas y han garantizado por miles de años la presencia del hombre en uno de los contextos mas singulares del globo.
Estamos fortalecidos, pero alertas. Contentos pero en guardia porque sabemos que la sed ciega de las grandes empresas no va a detenerse. La posibilidad de que inicien apelaciones en otras instancias es prácticamente un hecho tan indesmentible como la unanimidad en la reciente votación. La unidad y la voluntad son claves para que podamos hacer por esta tierra un poco de lo que ella hace por nosotros.
